Perm City public works program offers over 6,000 jobs.

Perm authorities continue to implement the public works program aimed at providing work opportunities to economically active people who are either unemployed or underemployed. Students enrolled in higher educational facilitites are also eligible to participate. Through the program, Perm citizens can receive additional income and help maintain the City's infrastructure.

The program includes several projects, i.e. planting trees and bushes, landscaping neighborhoods, redeveloping playgrounds, painting benches and road curbsб collecting garbage off the streets. The authorities are currently developing new projects to attract more participants.

First Deputy City Manager Anatoly Makhovikov noted, "We are cooperating with Perm companies and organizations. As a result, the amount of jobs through the public works program almost doubled over the last 2 weeks. We are advertising the program so that more paoeple can take part in it."

Being a part of the federal public works program, the Perm program started in May and will last until the end of the year. It offers short term employment and currently involves over 2,500 citizens.
